New Year’s Eve is the night the whole world celebrates in every imaginable way. It is the night of rituals, of fireworks, of the countdown to midnight… the most celebrated night of the year, where the hope that the coming year will be better than the last, and love, are what prevail.

We also know that the festive season is fairly consumerist, but there are clearly things we can do to reduce our impact and be more conscious.

Tips for a more conscious New Year’s Eve

Here are 3 very basic tips that will make a difference to your New Year’s Eve.

Say no to shop-bought confetti and to fireworks!

We all know by now that confetti is a source of environmental pollution and also the thing that will drive us round the bend, because however many times you clean the house, you will still be finding stray pieces all through the coming year.

As for fireworks, which are undeniably beautiful, this is one of those nights when there are displays in all sorts of places. But they pollute the air considerably and they are also no friend to our pets.

So why not use the wrapping paper that was heading for the bin and make your own confetti with a hole punch?

Reuse, restyle or rent your outfit!

As a rule, on New Year’s Eve we all want to feel good and look elegant (speaking for myself, at least).

Sometimes we buy things we will only wear on special occasions, or once a year, as with New Year’s Eve (I have done it myself). The truth is that we do not need to, at all, and there are more and more options:

  • If you do want to buy, look for conscious, home-grown brands;
  • You can always reuse or restyle what is already in your wardrobe;
  • Swap clothes with friends and family for these special occasions;
  • And you can always rent something special for the night.

There is no shortage of solutions!

Travel consciously!

It is a time when a lot of people like to explore and have a different experience, so it is a time when we travel more, whether to see somewhere new or to be with friends and family.

If you are thinking of travelling, make sustainability your main requirement. That way, when you are looking for hotels or activities, you can filter for the more environmentally friendly ones, and there are various platforms for it, such as Five Leaf System and Etic Hotels.

You can also look into offsetting your CO2 emissions over the festive season, one suggestion is GoParity.

These are a few of the changes, but you can find more in the suggestions I shared on the EcoX blog. What I forgot to mention there was using EcoX detergents for the New Year clean. There will certainly be plenty of them in this house. If you need to make a last-minute purchase, use my code JOANAM10 and get 10% off

Make your year a little greener and a little more conscious, without losing any of the glamour, the love or the fun! 🥂

Cheers to you!
